Abstract

To determine what adolescents think about school health education, a list of questions advanced by Università Ambrosiana Milano was proposed in two high schools in middle Italy.
Adolescents were required to choose between four different models connected with the following psychological researches:

  a. Body, mind and spirit in human beings;
  b. “Health belief model”;
  c. Only information about sexual behaviour and drug addiction risks;
  d. Kairos model: Kairos method is a humanistic model promoting the psychological and existential       dimensions of human personality.

In both schools, most students (males and females 14-15 and 16-18 years age) chose the humanistic method. Other choices are related to the kind of school (Liceo or Technical School), age, and sex. Information about sexual behaviour and substance use and abuse was chosen especially in technical school; it was often associated with another choice (even if a single answer was required). The results showed that adolescents tend to be interested in inquiries designed to enhance their own potential and permit them to form their own meaning as unique and responsible persons.

Key Words: health-education, Kairos, adolescents.
